About Our Books

"It is not enough to simply teach children to read; we have to give them something worth reading. Something that will stretch their imaginations--something that will help them make sense of their own lives and encourage them to reach out toward people whose lives are quite different from their own."
Katherine Patterson

We want to provide books that are relevant to the Primary School children we intend to reach. To achieve this we want to provide each them with story books, rather than 'textbooks' in order to build an association of enjoyment with reading. In addition to the books provided by organisations such as 'Books for Africa', we would also like to distribute a selection of books from Nigerian authors and publishers. This should reduce costs and improve exposure for local literary sources.

To supplement the storybooks, we feel that educational books will need to be provided to the schools. We will provide a dictionary to each participating class to help children to understand the meaning of the words they are reading. We also intend to establish Reading Corners or libraries to be stocked with a wide selection of books including encyclopaedias, history, nature and science books, including more fictional books that can be accessible to the children as desired.
